A New Perspective
For the first time since 2007, I am not on the sidelines this fall for the CT high school soccer season. Winning the Class M state championship together with my son and his teammates was a storybook ending to that chapter of my coaching career. I enjoyed my ten years at Tolland and wish Mike Caccomo and the boys the best of luck this season.
I am looking forward to enjoying the 2016 high school season from a different perspective. In “From the Stands,” I hope to capture some of the best that CT High School soccer has to offer from all corners of the state.
This season is already shaping up to be an exciting one. With 41 teams getting votes in the most recent CSCA coaches poll, the number of teams impressing voters may be at an all time high. We've seen traditional powers as well as some upstarts get out of the blocks quickly. There have also been some surprising results. Boys throughout the state must be dreaming that this is their chance to do something special.
As a coach, I spent a good deal of time on the road, scouting the teams on our schedule as well as potential tournament opponents. This year, I plan to sit back and enjoy our beautiful game. I've made a great number of friends through CSCA. I'll try and say hello if I stop by, but don't be surprised if you see me in the stands at your next big match. Of course, none of us can get to all the games we want. I'll also pass along news stories, videos and other blogs that highlight the accomplishments of teams throughout the state.
If you have a human interest story, a special player, a unique community event or anything else that it makes sense to share, or even just a great news clip, please let me know at csca@leahymg.com. I'll do my best to spread the word.
